ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA SUCCESSFULLY REPRESENTED AT VENEZUELAN TOURISM FAIR Date: 18 October 2006 This major tourism event showcases local and international destinations to the Venezuelan tourism professionals and public at large. Spanning over four days the show was frequented by tens of thousands of people each day who came to learn more about the destinations as Venezuela encourages the development of tourism. Antigua and Barbuda was prominently represented in the International Pavilion where the team met with professionals and the general public, distributing brochures and information, displaying videos of the islands and promoting key local products, English Harbour Rum and Susie’s Hot sauce.
As talks continue between the Ministry of Tourism and the Venezuelan Government to open air links between the two nations within the coming year, it was a timely opportunity to promote the destination to the Venezuelan public.
The keen interest demonstrated by tour operators, travel agents and consumers has begun to produce potential fruits, as travel agents on Antigua have already been contacted by Tour operators from Venezuela. The Ministry of Tourism has taken this new initiative in promoting Antigua & Barbuda in regional destinations which also includes the South American market as this is considered one of the new and fastest growing markets for vacation travelers. The Ministry of Tourism in its future plans for the South American market will be organizing a familiarization trip for travel agents and journalists from Venezuela. _____________________________________________________________________
